TIMS Card
The Nepal Tourism Board currently lists NPR 1,000 for SAARC applicants and NPR 2,000 for other applicants. Current provisions require an agency-issued TIMS Card on specified trekking routes.
Nepal Trekking Permits: TIMS, Conservation Areas & Restricted Areas
Trekking in Nepal can require several different types of authorization. Depending on your route, you may need a TIMS Card, protected-area entry permit or fee, and a special trekking permit for a restricted area.

What Permits Do You Need for Trekking in Nepal?
The exact requirements depend on the trekking route. Do not assume that one permit covers every requirement.
Protected-Area Entry Fee
National parks and conservation areas can require separate entry fees. For example, NTB currently lists NPR 3,000 for foreign visitors entering Annapurna Conservation Area and Sagarmatha National Park.
Restricted-Area Trekking Permit
Special trekking permits are required for designated restricted areas and are administered by the Department of Immigration.
Important: Permit fees are time-sensitive. Before
departure, confirm the latest fee and route coverage with the Nepal
Department of Immigration or a government-registered trekking agency.

Popular Trekking Routes and Permit Requirements
Annapurna Circuit
The route passes through the Annapurna region and requires the applicable protected-area entry fee and current trekking registration requirements.
Everest Base Camp
The current NTB TIMS provisions list Everest Base Camp and several Everest-region routes among routes requiring a licensed guide and agency-issued TIMS Card.
Manaslu Circuit
Manaslu is a restricted-area trekking region. A special permit, applicable conservation-area fee and current TIMS/guide requirements should be arranged before the trek.
How to Arrange Trekking Permits
- Choose your exact trekking route and itinerary.
- Check whether the route falls within a restricted area.
- Check whether the route requires a TIMS Card and licensed guide.
- Check national park or conservation-area entry requirements.
- Prepare passport and required trekking documentation.
- Use a government-registered trekking agency where agency processing is required.
- Keep your permits with you throughout the trek.
- Check the latest official fee schedule immediately before travel.
Important Permit Notes
The Department of Immigration states that trekkers must remain within the permitted area or route and carry the trekking permit while trekking. The permit must be shown to immigration officials or police when requested.
