Often clear and popular for trekking and mountain views.
Cool to cold, with much colder conditions at high elevations.
Weather by Region
| Region | General Climate | Travel Consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Kathmandu Valley | Moderate hills climate | Suitable for sightseeing throughout the year with seasonal differences. |
| Pokhara | Warmer and wetter than Kathmandu | Excellent base for tourism and trekking, with heavy monsoon rainfall. |
| Terai | Hotter summers and milder winters | Plan outdoor wildlife activities around seasonal heat and rainfall. |
| High Himalayas | Cold, with severe winter conditions | Temperature, snowfall and altitude require careful preparation. |
| Rain-Shadow Areas | Much drier conditions | Mustang and parts of Manang can be alternatives during monsoon. |
When Is the Best Time to Visit Nepal?
There is no single best month for every traveller. The ideal period depends on altitude, destination and activities.
Autumn Trekking
September–November is widely regarded as one of the strongest periods for trekking because post-monsoon conditions often bring clearer skies.
Spring Trekking
February–May is another popular trekking period, with spring flowers adding color to many mountain landscapes.
Monsoon Travel
Rain affects many destinations, but rain-shadow areas such as Mustang and parts of Manang can remain comparatively dry.
